Berlin was found to have two societies when the city's fortified wall was torn down almost 20 years ago. Having kept the city apart for so long, Berlin has since worked to establish itself as a strong and unified European capital.
Only small traces of the Wall exist today. However, though over one hundred of the many the streets are now connected, an invisible line can still be noticed if you take a look at the architecture of the once divided city.
To one side you can look up to massive skyscrapers and out over sprawling retail centres and urban neighbourhoods. Turn to walk toward the eastern side and you'll see the remnants of the old city.
Cars and pedestrians can now travel unhindered through the Brandenburg Gate which had once been sealed off. Alexanderplatz has also regained its flair as the city's major centre.
The imposing tower which once monitored every movement around the wall is now presented to the public in the way of a museum.
Though the tower itself is no longer there, visitors are invited to view the East Side Gallery. The piece of the Wall shows signs of the many local artists who've put their touch on it.
