The city of Portland was once a thriving port city serving the Pacific Northwest in the 19th century. The state’s largest city, though not the capital, sits right up against the beautiful Williamette River. Today the city is still a center for commercial business, but it is now also a place where many tourists flock each year to enjoy the land. For those who adore living the outdoor life, Portland is the city to visit. Pushed up against Mount Hood, visitors can enjoy fabulous mountain skiing within one hour’s drive. There are also trails and waterways that wind throughout the natural landscape of the city for miles upon miles.
Lush gardens filled the city where the International Rose Garden is a favorite among visitors who get a kick out of seeing the bloom of thousands of different roses at one time. Additionally, Portland hosts its annual Rose Festival every summer during the month of June. But the Rose Festival is only a small drop in the bucket in the options; there are several festivals, fairs, parades, and celebrations which take place throughout the year. For instance, in July you’ll find the Oregon Brewers Festival which is set up to recognize the contributions of all the many micro-breweries, wineries, and distilleries in the area.
In addition to the beauty of the landscape the wonderful outdoor activities, Portland has some of the most exquisite food anywhere to be found. Tourists can take advantage of local seafood, fruits, vegetables and wild game prepared in the most delicious ways in some of the finest establishments anywhere in the world.
It should come as no surprise that Portland is a favorite spot to visit for today’s modern traveler.
