Cheap Flight Hacks: How to Search for Flights Like a Superhero

The FlightsFinder.com master guide

Forget all the gimmicks. These cheap flight hacks show you how to compare different search engines efficiently, make sure you don't get ripped off by shady travel services, and look beyond a deceptively low price. Meet four Supersearchers who put those steps into practice.

HACK 01 / COMPARE

Compare more than one search engine

THE HACKSearch broadly and inspect the booking provider before choosing a fare.
01

Meet Marcus: He booked a cheap flight through an unknown travel agent, and things went bad quickly.

marcus before

Marcus was devoted to Kayak.com. He used to book every single flight through their platform. One day, he came across an unbelievable fare from an agent he hadn’t heard of before and thought, "How bad could it be?” and happily went ahead and booked it. However, when bad weather canceled his trip, he had to amend his ticket, only to be met with unanswered emails, endless hold times, and no customer support.

The pain point: the flight comparison site finds the fare, but the airline or online travel agent will process the booking and handle changes, refunds or disruption.

Marcus found FlightsFinder and transformed into “The Captain”

Marcus After

Marcus stumbled across FlightsFinder.com and found he could compare multiple search engines and review more booking partners from not only KAYAK but also Skyscanner, Google Flights, momondo, and more. This gave him a much larger array of booking options, so he could easily compare hundreds of airlines and travel agents, compare fares, check provider reviews and terms, and choose the booking option he preferred.

Booking provider hack: How the Captain uses FlightsFinder to compare the best prices & booking providers:

FlightsFinder puts KAYAK, Skyscanner, momondo, Google Flights and other search engines on one dashboard. Compare their results and check which provider sells the flight you choose.

Essential tip: Compare the booking providers behind each comparison site.

Let's say you want to fly from San Francisco to London. Start by comparing engines on our dashboard, then see who is selling the actual flight. If you find an agent you are unfamiliar with or that has questionable reviews, the best thing to do is leave it out. Then you can find a booking partner you feel comfortable spending money with. This helps you compare the price with the booking provider and its terms.

Compare prices and assess booking providers (illustrative example):

These sample fares are not live quotes. Compare the final price, seller reviews and booking terms before you pay.

Why highlight direct booking? Here, the Google Flights result leads to Virgin Atlantic. Booking directly with an airline may simplify communication about changes or disruptions, but it does not guarantee the best support or fare. Compare the terms of each offer.

About this example: The prices and seller names illustrate a comparison; they are not live quotes, and the table does not rate provider reliability. Fares and availability change. Check the final payable price, recent independent seller reviews, and change and refund terms before booking.

In this example, Kayak and Skyscanner show the lowest displayed fare through online travel agents. Virgin Atlantic costs more but offers a direct airline booking. Compare the actual booking terms and support options alongside the final price before choosing.

Meet Clara: She spent hours & hours researching one multi city trip.

Clara before

Clara always used Google Flights. She was convinced nothing else was better. She needed to book a complicated multi-city trip and spent hours trying to figure out the cheapest, best route. Just when she was about to book, she found another option on a different website with a better price and much friendlier flight times. Then it dawned on her that she should have compared multiple search engines before making her final booking. However, she knew that process would literally take forever…

The pain point: different search engines can combine different airlines, routes and booking providers resulting in dramatically different prices. Familiarity with one tool is useful, but it is not the same as seeing every option.

Clara found FlightsFinder and transformed into “Matrix”

Clara After

Clara frantically Googled ‘compare multi-city flights’ and stumbled upon the FlightsFinder search engine. With its super-powerful meta-meta multi-city search engine, she could compare multi-city options with up to six flight legs across several search engines, weighing price alongside travel time and connections.

Her new rule is simple: no single flight search engine wins every route, every time.

What the comparison shows:
Cheapest route: Kiwi.com returned the lowest overall price at ₱120,530.23, although the itinerary includes four connections and considerably more flying time.
Best route: Kayak returned the strongest combination of price, stops and travel time in this sample: ₱136,731.20, only one connection across the five flights and 45h 23m of combined flight time.
Overall travel time is the combined duration of the five flights shown and does not include the multi-day stays between destinations.
In the above example, KIWI has the cheapest option but with long flight times. Google has the next-best price, but the flight times are even more exhausting and longer. The best option is Kayak, which is slightly more expensive overall but has much better flight options, with only one stop throughout the itinerary and slightly less overall travel time than Momondo. Skyscanner has good flying times too but is more expensive than Kayak.

Conclusion - You can quickly compare your options and book with the provider that gives you the best combination of flying times, stops, airlines, and price. A task that would otherwise take a lot of effort to achieve.

Meet Chloe: She found an awesome deal but when she went to book found it was a fake price

Chloe before

Chloe is a spontaneous deal hunter. She loved browsing prices exclusively on momondo. One evening she spots what looks like a brilliant ₱2,836.75 fare. She clicks through, already picturing the trip—only to discover that the fare is no longer available and the bookable price is now ₱7,249.46!.

Chloe stumbles across the FlightsFinder platform and realizes she can compare prices from multiple top aggregators in seconds, including her beloved momondo. What this shows The cheapest-looking fare is not always the price a traveler can actually book. In this sample, Momondo's ₱59,067.38 headline fare increased by ₱4,727.91 to ₱63,795.29 when proceeding to book, while Aviasales increased from ₱60,580.31 to ₱62,912.74. By contrast, the headline prices shown by Google Flights, Cheapflights, Skyscanner and KAYAK remained available at the same price. Google Flights ultimately returned the lowest bookable fare at ₱58,500.03.
Note: Prices reflect this specific LAX–London direct-flight comparison at the time of testing. Airfares are dynamic and can change between searching and booking. A price increase in this sample does not mean the same site will show an unavailable headline fare on every search.
In the above example, momondo discovered a great-looking non-stop round-trip fare from Los Angeles to London for ₱59,067.38. However, after clicking through, the price annoyingly increased to ₱63,795.29.

By comparing flights through FlightsFinder, you can quickly check other prices and find a cheaper flight on Google Flights, bookable at ₱58,500.03.

Meet Leo: He booked a self transfer flight and missed his connection due to unforeseen delays, leaving him stranded.

Leo before

Leo is an explorer. His go-to website is Skyscanner. He is flexible about destinations, airports and connections, so the lowest fare usually grabs his attention. Then one cheap itinerary sends him through an unfamiliar booking provider that included a self-transfer. A unexpected delay breaks the connection, and leaves him stranded at the airport.
The pain point: the lowest number can hide baggage fees, remote airports, long transfers, separate tickets or a connection the traveller must protect for themselves.

Leo After

Leo uses FlightsFinder to compare flight options and apply available filters. This helps him weigh connection risk, travel time and price. What this comparison shows The headline fares are extremely close, ranging from just ₱10,149.25 to ₱10,338.37, but the difference becomes much larger once baggage is included. KAYAK has the lowest cabin-bag fare at ₱10,590.52 and the lowest checked-bag fare at ₱12,733.84. Google Flights is joint-cheapest at the basic ₱10,149.25 fare and has the shortest overall journey at 9h 50m, but its checked-bag price rises to ₱16,516.17 – an extra ₱6,366.92 over the basic fare. Kiwi's checked-bag price increases by ₱5,295.26, from ₱10,275.33 to ₱15,570.59. Only Skyscanner and Momondo show self-transfer itineraries in this example. KAYAK, Kiwi and Google Flights do not.
Note: Prices and itinerary details relate to this specific one-way Paris–Dubai comparison at the time of testing. Flight prices and baggage charges can change.
In the example above, Kayak found a better fare than Skyscanner, beating it on price and journey time and without including a self-transfer. Compare providers on every route to ensure you get the best price and the most comfortable journey.

How to do this compare hack on FlightsFinder.com

  • Search for your chosen route on FlightsFinder.
  • On the results page, you can set the most important filters, such as adding stops or going direct, adding a cabin or checked bag, and setting departure times, arrival times, layover times, and total journey duration.
  • Once you set the filters, you can instantly compare aggregators and compare budget versus full-service offers with extras like added luggage. To refine further, you can do so in each search engine tab by selecting airline alliances, deselecting particular airlines and removing self-transfer options.

Cheap flight hacks FAQ

Questions Supersearchers ask

What is the best hack for finding cheap flights?

The most reliable starting point is comparison: check multiple flight-search engines, then vary dates, airports and route types where your trip allows it. No single trick or website produces the cheapest result every time.

Is Tuesday really the cheapest day to book flights?

There is no universal booking day that guarantees the lowest airfare. Travelling on a lower-demand day may help on some routes, but the useful habit is checking flexible travel dates rather than waiting for a mythical hour to press “search”.

Does incognito mode make flights cheaper?

Incognito mode can give you a clean browser session, but it should not be treated as a dependable route to lower prices. Compare live, bookable fares across multiple sources before spending time repeatedly clearing cookies.

Can a VPN make flights cheaper?

Sometimes a different market or currency displays a different price, but a VPN does not guarantee a saving. Compare the final total, exchange rate, payment fees and booking conditions before purchasing through another market.

How do I know whether a cheap fare is real?

Click through to the booking provider and confirm the exact route, dates, cabin, passenger count and baggage. If the fare is unusually low, cross-check the same journey on other search engines.

Should I book directly with the airline?

Direct booking can simplify support, but it is not automatically the best choice in every case. Compare the price difference, provider reputation and booking conditions, then decide how much the added confidence is worth to you.

Are hidden-city flights worth it?

They can look cheaper, but come with significant trade-offs involving baggage, missed later segments, disruption and airline conditions. Compare conventional itineraries first and understand the implications before making a decision.

Are flight price alerts useful?

Yes—when they match a trip you can realistically take. A few targeted alerts for suitable routes and dates are usually more actionable than a constant stream of unrelated deals.
